Career Terms

Agemasen

Also known as I didnt hit 😦

  • Describes a Support Card Chain Event failing to complete, or failing a failable final Chain Event.

  • Origin: A scene in Umamusume Season 2, where Special Week denies Mejiro McQueen in Teio’s dream sequence.

  • Gained notoriety during CM1 and CM2, where the Special Week Speed SSR was used to obtain the skill Gourmand. This Card can sometimes give the white version, Hydrate, instead.

Aptitude

  • An Uma’s compatibility with a Style, Distance, or Ground Type.

Bond

Also known as Friendship

  • A value of 0 to 100 that is attributed to Support Cards and NPCs.

  • Support Cards unlock Friendship Training after 80 Bond.

  • NPC Bonds are important for Unique Skill and post-Career Events.

  • Bond is increased through Training and other Career Events.

Career

Also known as Career Run, Run

  • The main Roguelike gamemode of Umamusume.

  • Trainee Umas are trained across three years to create Veteran Umas.

Charming

  • A Career Condition which increases Bond gain when Training by 2.

Chain Event

  • The main Events of a Support Card, denoted by progress arrows.

  • Chain Events have a higher chance of showing up compared to regular Events.

  • SR Cards have 2 Chain Events, SSR Cards have 3 Chain Events.

Classic Year

Also known as Year 2

  • The second Year of a Career.

Clocks

  • Resource used to attempt failed Career Goal Races again.

  • Can be used up to 3 times per Career.

Condition

  • Positive or negative effects that affect different aspects of an Uma’s Career.

  • Negative Conditions can be removed via the Infirmary.

Debut

  • The first Race in an Uma’s Career.

  • This Race must be won before being able to run in any other Race.

Energy

  • The primary resource used for actions during a Career.

Event

  • Uma, Scenario or Support-dependent conversations during a Career.

  • Events can have choices that result in different rewards.

Fast Learner

Also known as Sharp, Kiremono, FL

  • A Career Condition that decreases the cost of all Skills by 10% of its base cost.

Friendship Training

Also known as Rainbow Training, Rainbows

  • Occurs when a Support Card’s Friendship Gauge is at least 80% full and appears on their respective Stat.

  • Rainbow rings appear around the Training and Support Card.

  • Friendship Training is boosted by that Support Card’s Friendship Bonus modifier.

Give Up

Also known as Door, Glue

  • Refers to exiting out of a Career.

Glue

  • Negative descriptor of a veteran Uma with poor Stats/Skills.

Grandparent

  • The four Parent Umas of the two Parents.

Hint

  • A discount applied to the Skill Point cost of Skills.

Hot Topic

  • A Career Condition that increases Bond when Training with NPCs by 40%.

High Roll

  • Refers to getting ideal or close to ideal results in an RNG situation.

  • High roll, like rolling a six on a dice.

Inspiration

  • A Career Event where Stats, Skills, and Aptitudes are obtained from Parents and Grandparents.

Junior Year

Also known as Year 1

  • The first Year of a Career.

Migraine

  • A Career Condition that prevents Mood from being increased.

Mood

  • The condition of an Uma split into four levels.

  • Mood affects Training gains and Stats during a Race.

Night Owl

  • A Career Condition that has a random chance to lower Energy and/or Mood.

Outing

  • A special form of Recreation unlocked through Pal Cards.

Parent

  • The two main Umas selected for Inspiration.

Practice Perfect

  • A Career Condition that reduces failure chance during Training by 2%.

Practice Poor

Recreation

  • A Career mechanic that increases Mood and Energy.

Skin Outbreak

  • A Career Condition that has a chance to lower Mood.

Skill Points

Also known as SP

  • The currency used to purchase Skills during a Career.

Slacker

  • A Career Condition that causes an Uma to infrequently not show up to Training.

Slow Metabolism

  • A Career Condition that prevents the increase of Speed during Training.

  • Can be randomly cured through Training.

Spark

  • A component of a Veteran Uma that determines what they will provide at the start of the Career and in an Inspiration Event.

Spirit Burst

  • A Unity Cup specific mechanic which is unlocked after filling up a team member’s Spirit Gauge.

  • Provides additional Stats and a Skill that corresponds to one of an Uma’s A Aptitudes.

Spirit Gauge

  • A Unity Cup specific mechanic which is unlocked three Turns into a Unity Cup Career.

  • The Spirit Gauge fills up through Unity Training, completely filling at four.

Summer

  • The four Turns from Early July to Late August.

  • All Training Facilities are set to Level 5 and Rest is turned into Rest & Recreation.

Support Card

Also known as Supoka/Sapoka, Card, Support

  • Umas that assist a trainee during their career. They provide a variety of buffs and Events that can improve the results of a Career.

Trainee

Also known as Umamusume, Unit, Character, Uma

  • Refers to the Career-selectable version of a character.

Training

  • The primary method of raising Stats during a Career.

Training Facilities

  • The five locations where Training is performed.

  • Can be leveled through Scenario-dependent methods.

Turns

  • A unit of action during a Career.

  • Each Turn takes up half a month during a Career.

Veteran

  • A representation of an Uma rewarded after a Career. Used in various gamemodes and as Legacies.

  • The first Scenario of Umamusume.

Unity Cup

Also known as Aoharu

  • The second Scenario of Umamusume.

  • Some acronyms use the A in Aoharu: Ignited Spirit: WIT is often referred to as AW, or Aoharu Wit.

Trackblazer

Also known as Make A New Track!, MANT

  • The third Scenario of Umamusume.

  • Not to be confused with the Skill with the same name.

Grand Live

Team Compositions

Ace

  • An Uma built to win in PvP Races

Bermuda Triangle

Also known as Bermuda

  • Refers to a team composition of three Umas with independent Acceleration Conditions. These Umas will enter the final Straight and Duel each other.

  • Often run as 3 Front or 2 Front 1 Pace.

  • A popular example is Silence Suzuka, Maruzensky, and Taiki Shuttle in CM7. Silence Suzuka accelerates from first, Maruzensky accelerates from second, and Taiki Shuttle accelerates from third.

Chariot

Also known as “I need smaru to drag me around on a leash”

  • Refers to a team composition of two Front Runners and a third non-Front Runner, often a Late Surger or End Closer.

  • This third Uma utilizes high Wit to enter Pace Up mode caused by the 2 Front Runners raising the Lobby Pace.

  • Guarantees a high Lobby Pace to prevent the third non-Front Runner from entering Pace Down mode from pushing up too far.

Debuffer

  • An Uma built mainly to use Debuff Skills.

Rabbit

Also known as Sac Front, Sac Runaway, Sacrifice, Slingshot, etc.

  • Refers to a Runaway setting a high Lobby Pace for the Race.

  • Often refers to a Runaway specifically set up to run out of HP in the late-race, providing a semi-consistent target for other Uma to proc No Stopping Me! off of.

Solo Ace

Also known as Oshi Gaming, Double Dom

  • Refers to a 1 Ace team composition.

  • The other two Umas are often built as Debuffers to funnel wins into the Ace.

Win Condition

Also known as Wincon

  • Refers to something that needs to happen for an Uma to win a Race.

  • Typically, this describes proper positioning for Acceleration Skills, such as being in sixth to proc Let’s Pump Some Iron!.

  • Also often describes proc’ing Recovery Skills to not run out of HP.

Events/Gamemodes

Also known as Gacha

  • The game’s gacha System, split between Uma and Support Card Banners.

  • Banners often have better rates for specific Umas or Support Cards.

Champions Meeting

Also known as CM, Chanmi

  • The main 3v3v3 PvP Event of the game, with 2 Rounds and a Finals. Rounds can be advanced by winning once for Group B, and 3 wins for Group A. Two Leagues can be chosen: Open League for Umas Rank B or under, and Graded League for no restrictions.

Daily Races

Also known as Farming Races

  • A permanent PvE mode consisting of three difficulties.

  • Used to obtain Monies or Support Points.

Event

  • Extra content or bonuses accessible for a limited amount of time

Exhibition

Also known as Rooms, Scrims

  • A PvP mode used to enter Room Matches against other players on custom Tracks.

  • Often used to prepare for upcoming PvP Events.

League of Heroes

Also known as LoH

  • An alternate 3v3 12-Uma (6 player Uma and 6 NPCs) PvP Event where daily Races are played for points towards rankings and a server-wide Leaderboard.

Legend Races

  • A recurring PvE Event consisting of a Race against two to four predetermined Umas.

  • Used to obtain Star Shards of the specific Umas as well as Limit Break Crystal Shards.

Team Trials

Also known as TT

  • A permanent PvP mode consisting of 5 Races and 15 total Umas. Each Race is run with different Distances or Ground type.

  • Score is earned through the Races to retain or promote in Class.

  • One of the primary sources of renewable Carats.

Racing Terms

Foal

  • A newborn horse.

Colt

  • Male horse 4 years old or under.

  • In-game, this is designated with a decoration on the Uma’s right ear

Stallion

  • Male horse over the age of 4.

  • In-game, this is designated with a decoration on the Uma’s right ear

Filly

  • Female horse 4 years old or under.

  • In game, this is designated with a decoration on the Uma’s left ear

Mare

  • Female horse over the age of 4.

  • In game, this is designated with a decoration on the Uma’s left ear

Racing Form/Program

  • Used to show the background and description of the horse.

  • In-game, this is the menu with the Uma’s Stats browsable before a Race.

Starting Gate

  • A mobile, steel structure that horses start races in.

Furlong

  • 1/8th of a mile, 200m

Clubhouse Turn

  • The first corner of a race.

Backstretch

  • The straight on the opposite side from the crowd

Homestretch

  • The final furlong of a race.

Far Turn

  • The last corner before the homestretch.

Tote Board

  • A display that shows the results at the end of a race.

Win/Place/Show

  • The three types of wagering in horse racing. Refers to Top 1/Top 2/Top 3 respectively.

Length

  • The length of a horse, or 2.5m.

Race Mechanics

Acceleration

  • The rate in which an Uma’s Velocity increases.

Accel Zone

Also known as Final Leg

  • The first half of the late-race, where the Uma accelerates to their Top Speed.

  • Noted as phase=2 in Skill Conditions.

Block

  • When an Uma is in front of a faster Uma, preventing them from Overtaking.

Base Target Speed

  • The lowest Target Speed for an Uma during any point in the Race.

  • Changes based on the phase of the Race.

Bowling Ball

  • When an Uma ahead runs out of HP and slows down to minimum speed, blocking the Uma behind her.

  • The positions of the Uma on the chart are relative to each other, an Uma slowing down will move backwards visually. Therefore, an Uma dying ahead looks like a Bowling Ball rapidly falling behind and knocking the Uma behind them down.

Current Speed

  • The actual Velocity of the Uma.

Early-Race

Also known as Opening Leg

  • The first sixth of a Race.

  • Noted as phase=0 in Skill Conditions.

Field of View

Also known as FoV, Vision

  • Represents what an Uma can see during a race. This can affect various vision based skills, such as All-Seeing Eyes.

Gate

  • The location where Umas start the Race.

Ground Type

  • The material of the Racetrack.

  • The Ground Type is either Turf or Dirt.

Ground Condition

  • The state of the Ground caused by weather.

  • Can be Firm, Soft, Heavy, or Good.

Homestretch

Also known as Last Spurt

  • The last 1/6th of the race. The UI fades away and the music ramps up when entered.

  • Noted as phase=3 in Skill Conditions.

HP

  • Represents how far an Uma can run before being forced into minimum speed. This value is determined by the Stamina Stat and the distance of the Race.

  • Where an Uma’s Spurt starts in the late-race is also determined by how much HP she has. If she has insufficient HP at the start of the late-race, she will delay the spurt until a point where Spurting does not drop her HP past zero, excluding the final 60m.

Kidnapping

  • When an Uma, usually a Frontliner, Late Starts and is blocked by Backliners, and is forced to run the race from behind.

Lane

  • Sections split across the width of the Track.

  • The width of each Lane is course-dependent.

Last Spurt

  • The mode an Uma enters at the beginning of late-race, increasing her Target Speed to the Top Speed.

Late Race

  • A term encompassing both the Final Leg (Phase 2) and Last Spurt (Phase 3) of a race.

Lengths

Also known as Bashin, L

  • A unit of measurement used to describe distances between horses during a Race. This is equivalent to 2m in-game.

  • In real life, a Length is equivalent to 2.4m.

Long

  • The final denominator of Race length.

  • Refers to Races 2500m or longer.

Medium

  • The third denominator of Race length.

  • Refers to Races between 2000m and 2499m.

Mid-Race

Also known as Middle Leg

  • The middle 3/6th of a Race.

  • Noted as phase=1 in Skill Conditions.

Mile

  • The second denominator of Race length.

  • Refers to Races between 1600m and 1999m.

No-Zone

Also known as Normal Zone

  • 200m section before the start of the first Corner in a Race: All Umas are forced into Normal Mode, causing them to cancel all overtakes and move towards the inner-most rail.

Normal Mode

  • The mode an Uma is in when there are no Overtake targets or while in the No-Zone.

  • Umas generally line up at the inner lane, making Overtaking very difficult.

Overtake

  • When an Uma passes another Uma.

  • Not to be confused with Overtake Mode.

Overtake Mode

  • The mode an Uma enters when they are preparing to Overtake another Uma.

Pace-Down Mode

Also known as PDM

  • The mode an Uma enters when they are too far ahead relative to their Style during Position Keep.

Pacemaker

  • The Uma that determines the Pace Keeping mechanics of the Lobby.

Phase

  • Describes the current section of the Race.

  • The Race is split into four phases: the early-race, mid-race, Final Leg, and Last Spurt.

Position Keep

Also known as PosKeep

  • The mechanic that enforces certain positions for every Uma based on their Style. Umas under the effect of Velocity Skills ignore this mechanic.

Racecourse

  • The general area in which Races take place.

  • E.G. Tokyo Racecourse

  • Not to be confused with Racetrack.

Racetrack

Also known as Track

  • The subsection of the racecourse in which the Race takes place.

  • E.G. Tokyo 2500m Track

  • Not to be confused with Racecourse.

Rushed

Also known as Kakari

  • A mode an Uma enters when behind the ideal position for their Style.

  • Increases HP drain and forces the Uma to change to a Style ahead of their own. Front Runners become subject to additional HP drain.

Section

  • Refers to the unit of division of a Track.

  • Each section is 1/24th of any Track.

Speed Carryover

  • Refers to starting the late-race with an increased Velocity due to the overlap of Velocity Skill duration and the Final Leg.

Sprint

Also known as Short

  • The smallest denominator of Race length.

  • Refers to Races shorter than 1600m.

Spot Struggle

  • When two or more Front Runners fight for the lead early in the Race.

  • Spot Struggling largely increases HP consumption.

Spurt Rate

  • The percentage chance an Uma is able to reach their highest potential Top Speed in the late-race.

Start Dash

  • The mode an Uma enters at the beginning of the Race.

  • Umas accelerate faster until almost reaching their Base Speed.

Survival Rate

  • The percentage chance that an Uma is able to complete the race without being forced to slow down to minimum speed.

  • Not to be confused with Spurt Rate.

Target Speed

  • The maximum Velocity that an Uma can reach.

Terrain

  • Non-volatile features of a Track, such as Uphills, Downhills, Corners, and Straights.

Top Speed

Also known as Last Spurt Speed

  • The highest Target Speed that an Uma can reach in the late-race.

Track Conditions

  • The volatile features of a Track, such as weather, season, and Ground Conditions.

Velocity

  • The unit of measurement for the rate in which an Uma moves.

Wide Swing

Also known as Narnia or Being in Narnia

  • When an Uma chooses an outer lane when changing lanes at the final Corner. Consequently, the distance they have to run compared to an Uma near the inner rail is increased.

Running Styles

Style

Also known as Strategy

  • The position that an Uma keeps throughout the early and mid-race, i.e. Runaway, Front Runner, Pace Chaser, Late Surger, or End Closer.

Runaway

Also known as Great Escape, 大逃げ/Oonige

  • A subset of Front Runners that position themselves even further ahead than regular Front Runners.

  • See also: Runaway (Skill).

  • Considered a Front Runner for the purposes of Skill Conditions.

Front Runners

Also known as 逃げ/Nige, runner

  • A style where an Uma runs to the front of the pack immediately, and tries to maintain this lead for the entire race.

Pace Chaser

Also known as 先行/Senkou, leader

  • A style where an Uma stays towards the front of the pack (between Front Runners and Late Surgers) until the Final Leg.

Late Surgers

Also known as 差し/Sashi, betweener

  • A style where an Uma stays towards the back of the pack (between Pace Chasers and End Closers) until the Final Leg.

End Closers

Also known as Oiko, 追込/Oikomi, chaser

  • A style where an Uma hangs in the very back of the pack, then commits to either a 'last-to-first' spurt in the Final Leg or an advancement to the front in the Middle Leg.

Frontline

  • Often used to refer to Front Runners.

  • Can also refer to Pace Chasers, depending on context.

Backline

  • Often used to refer to End Closers and Late Surgers.

  • Can also refer to Pace Chasers, depending on context.

Skills

Acceleration Skills

  • Skills that increase Current Speed over time.

  • Represented in-game by a sweating Uma in the Skill icon.

Angling and Scheming

  • Stacking skills which activate on the Final Corner to massively increase Target Speed. Since Umas spread out on the final corner, it’s the easiest place to overtake – especially for Backliners.
